  1. Jean Gentry

Note: I am the author’s sister. This is my review of Night Rain. Make of it what you will.

Of the three books I have reviewed, Night Rain is my favorite. The story starts with James, who is attacked and nearly killed on a dark and stormy night after work. He is saved by a mysterious ooze/parasite named Ted. Soon after James recovers, he and Ted find themselves hunted by other parasites that have possessed humans, who want to take Ted out- permanently.

Ted is the standout character of the story. He serves as the audience surrogate, and often says what the reader is likely thinking when it comes to certain events. Ted is written as a funny smart aleck, but a few chapters in he’s shown to have a softer side and a touching and sadly tragic backstory. Ted, IMHO, carries the narrative weight of the story. James I feel, could use a bit more personality.

The story is fast paced and the art overall is good. The colors stand out, which helps a ton since many scenes take place at night and/or in dark places, such as a nightclub.

Each chapter introduces a new character, one that is often hunting James and Ted down. They range from a young woman to a solider to a kickboxer to a detective. Of the battles in the story, the one w/Pathos (The solider/sniper) is my favorite, as it is reminiscent of the sniper battle from Metal Gear Solid 3.

If you like snarky, humorous sidekicks characters and fast paced action, I highly recommend Night Rain.

  2. S. Min

Author Jesse Wolfe has created a world that comes across so authentically that you could almost picture yourself there. Night Rain is a story about a average young man who finds himself linked with a mysterious creature. Both man and creature must cope with what comes with this new and frowned upon bond. From there the way the plot unfolds is almost cinematic and is rich with action and humor to keep the reader interested. Throughout this series Wolfe brilliantly crafts a story filled with mystery, suspense and action that in the end leaves you wanting more. This was a thrilling read that kept me anticipating the next moment.

  3. Mutaz Hamed

Night Rain reminds me of the Thing the movie. The story begins very normally, but then you’re hit by one twist after another. The concept of the story is really cool. A Parasite is usually not good, but in this case it’s good. It gives our protagonist powers, but with power always comes trouble! A really enjoyable read.

Love the unique art style of this graphic novel and the story is fun too. Kind of reminds me of Venom but is still unique enough to not feel like a copy. Definitely recommend.
